Description
Arnica (Arnica montana) is a perennial herbaceous plant that belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is commonly found in mountainous regions of Europe and Siberia, although it has also become naturalized in some areas of North America. The plant grows to a height of approximately 60 centimeters and has erect, hairy stems.
The leaves of arnica are opposite, simple and lanceolate, with toothed edges. Its flowers are bright and yellow, with a diameter of about 5 cm, and are grouped in flower heads. Blooms during the summer months.
Arnica is known for its medicinal properties and has been traditionally used in herbal medicine to treat bruises, sprains, inflammations and muscle pain. However, it is important to note that the plant contains toxic compounds, and its internal use is not recommended without the proper supervision of a health professional. Instead, topical products containing arnica extract are commonly used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation in the skin.
